In all of these three music videos, it shows a clear representation of the type pf people which are into dance music. This is shown through the use of actors (which are usually in the young age of early twenties, setting and the style of the beat of the song.

Now look at the two newspapers below and write a comparative analysis of the political ideology of each newspaper based on the articles.

When New Labour (led by Tony Blair) came to power the Labour Party adopted a more centralised position whilst still leaning to the left and The Conservative Party (led by David Cameron) adopted a more central position whilst still leaning to the right. This has changed again recently with The Conservative Party moving more towards the right (as Teresa May has responded to the post-Brexit changes to the political landscape) and The Labour Party moving back towards a more traditional left (as Jeremy Corben represents a more socialist politics).

‘The Left’ is associated with ‘Liberalism’ (L) - ‘Socialism’ (L+) and ‘Communism’ (L++). This means that people who represent this party - Labour’s Members of Parliament (MPs) - and those who vote Labour share a set of values and ideology that tend to be more liberal. People who vote Labour are sometimes referred to as being more ‘Left Wing’. Communism would be an extreme left position. 

‘The Right’ is associated with ‘Conservatism’ (R) and ‘Nationalism’ (R+). This means that people who represent this party - The Conservative Party’s Members of Parliament (MPs) - and those who vote Conservative share a set of values and ideology that tend to be more conservative. People who vote Conservative are sometimes referred to as being more ‘Right Wing’. Nationalism (BNP) would be an extreme right position.

Task: Revise these key points about the Political Landscape in the UK and then answer the following questions in your notes.

1. Consider what would some examples be of more liberal values / opinions? Why would someone vote Labour?
2. Consider what would some examples be of more conservative values / opinions? Why would someone vote Conservative?
3. Where do other parties fit in to this Left - Right continuum (e.g. Liberal Democrats, The Green Party, UKIP, etc.)?
4. Why would a group of people (e.g. a political party) change their stance in terms of key issues?
5. Why would an organisation support a certain political party through its media products?

Close ups- are used to create emotion and tension. The close-up on a characters face makes the audience feel involved with the character.


Extreme close ups- for example a hand on a door handle, where information is withheld from the audience, create suspense or draw attention to something important that will be used after in the narrative, for example a tattoo.

Long shots- are used where more information about the character or the situation is required. Here the audience may be shown the characters and part.

Framing-The framing of our shot is almost identical to the original as the size of the man in both images are practically the same, and the width and height are completely equal. All the elements of our frame were exact and we were very happy with the result.

Lighting- I think our set up is slightly brighter than the original as we used above lights to try and give the impression of a natural lighting. In the original the light comes from the sides and above to focus on the man and we have tried to emulate this by the use of overhead lights and a light from behind the camera. The lighting has the effect of making the image of the man clear, therefore achieving our goal.

Mise en scene- Our costumes choices were very similar to the original, the only difference being the colours of the chequered shirt. We have copied the writing on the paper and all our props used match. The setting of our video was in a completely white room, therefore differing from the original. If we had a similar background available we would have used it but sadly there wasn’t one we could use.

Camera- We used a hand held camera to give a realistic effect to our scene. We have perhaps over done the amount of movement of the camera compared to the original. We have to keep our camera very steady so that it matches the movement of the camera in the original. The angle of our camera matches the height of the actor, therefore fitting the angle used in the original.

Actors- They followed the required movement in the video and copied the original very closely. The timing of the actor’s movement perfectly fits the movement in the original advert, therefore we can deem it as successful.
